The Olympics are held every four years, alternating between the Summer and Winter Games, which occur two years apart. This year the Olympics are officially opened in Paris, on the night of Friday, July 26, 2024, and will continue till August 11, 2024.
We at Candy Cuddles also celebrated this event by doing various art activities and sports. Today, our Centre transformed into a vibrant mini-Olympics arena! The children participated in various fun-filled activities, including a sack race, balloon race, lemon spoon race, and frog jump. We completed our fun day by having our lunch outdoors and enjoyed a sunny day. It was a day of excitement, teamwork, and learning through play.
This learning experience aligned with Te Whariki’s strand of well-being, Belonging, Contribution, and Communication as the children experienced an environment where their health was promoted, encouraged to contribute to the community, and promoted children’s ability to express themselves. It was also aligned with NELP objectives by involving tamariki in executing Olympic activities by allowing every child to participate, making it inclusive, and demonstrating quality teaching by creating a dynamic and engaging environment.
The Olympics celebration at our ECE Centre was a wonderful example of learning through play. The children not only had fun but also developed a range of skills and attributes that are foundational to their holistic development.
Building on this experience, we look forward to exploring more global events and cultural celebrations, continuing to nurture the holistic development of our tamariki in alignment with Te Whariki and NELP principles.
