Every child is born with boundless potential. Quality early education nurtures this potential, laying a solid foundation for lifelong learning and personal growth. In New Zealand, our early learning standards rank among the highest globally, ensuring that nearly all children engage in enriching relationships and experiences within our early education settings, setting them up for a bright future.
We, at Candy Cuddles Child Care Centre, follow an emergent curriculum inspired by Te Whāriki, New Zealand’s renowned early childhood education framework. This approach allows us to create learning experiences that evolve from the interests, strengths, and needs of the children, fostering a rich and meaningful educational journey.
Our programme emphasizes the importance of fostering children’s home languages and cultural values. We actively support and empower children to learn and practice their home languages through the use of basic words, songs, stories, and games in various languages. This is achieved through responsive and reciprocal relationships with parents, families, and the wider community. We encourage parents to take an active role in their children’s learning journey, sharing cultural values, beliefs, customs, and traditions.
Our learning community values the incorporation of Te Reo Māori and the rich diversity of cultural beliefs and practices. This is demonstrated through the use of basic words, sentences, karakia, games, tikanga practices, and customs, which are woven into our daily routines. Our learning environment celebrates cultural learning and understanding as a living and integral part of our past, present, and future. We honor the Treaty of Waitangi and its role in shaping Early Childhood Education, reflecting our commitment to fostering respect, inclusion, and diversity.
We believe that infants thrive when they are cared for with deep respect by people who understand their unique developmental and learning needs. Recognizing their confidence and competence, we treat infants as equal participants, capable of problem-solving and decision-making. By allowing them to explore and grow at their own pace, we nurture their independence and sense of self.
Our ‘Fabulous Fours’ programme is specifically designed for children aged 4-5 years, focusing on literacy and numeracy to ensure a smooth transition to school. This comprehensive, skill-based programme supports individual learning needs and encourages exploration, inquiry, communication, and creativity. It provides a fun and supportive environment that prepares children for academic success while fostering a love of learning.
We are committed to creating a natural learning environment, both indoors and outdoors, that is safe, stimulating, and educational. Resources and equipment are intentionally arranged to spark wonder, imagination, curiosity, and inquiry. The natural environment provides hands-on experiences that help children understand maths and science concepts while fostering respect for the physical and living world.
Our programme offers enriched, multi-sensory experiences that engage children’s senses—taste, touch, sight, hearing, and smell—to stimulate curiosity and support brain development. Through creative expression, children strengthen their intellect, build social skills, and explore their unique potential in a nurturing environment.
